Forecastle Festival “Captain’s Log” - August

Dear Friends ~

Welcome back. It’s been a month since the 8th annual Forecastle Festival stormed up the Ohio River. I want to offer my utmost appreciation to the 20,000+ travelers who journeyed from (44) states and (6) countries to be with us that remarkable weekend. Whether you were an attendee, participant, volunteer, photographer, or blogger, you were part of history. After eight years of hard work and sacrifice, our little fest reached an important milestone, and the sun is shining bright aboard our salty decks. Of course, we are now back out at sea, and for the first time in five years, the captain is taking a breather to rest and reassess. As always, there is commotion above deck, as the good ship never stops. Here is our August scroll:

- Our good friends at JanSport have launched the 2nd annual Forecastle “Battle of the Bands” competition. The top vote-getting band will perform at both “Halfway to Forecastle” and “The Forecastle Festival”. To vote, visit: http://sonicbids.com/jansport between now and August 31st. The Top 5 groups will be announced Sept 15th, with (1) winner selected by JanSport and The Forecastle Deck Crew. Last year’s winner ~ The Broderick (Bloomington, IN) ~ won a special following through their participation, with a new fanbase, praise from high-profile regional and national media outlets, music industry reps, and more.

- Exclusive multimedia from Forecastle 2009 will be released shortly. Included are performances and interviews from Widespread Panic, The Black Crowes, The Black Keys, The Avett Brothers, and over (75) bands and DJs. Hundreds of photos will be viewable as well, all snugged inside our media gallery: http://forecastlefest.com/media.php.

- If you have photos, stories, videos, snapshots of this year’s event, we would love to see, hear, feel it. We also want Your Recommendations for Forecastle 2010 (music included!). Please send any/all thoughts, feelings, recommendations, critiques, etc, our way: info@forecastlefest.com.

- Announcement of 10′ dates, venue, worldwide tour, and more will be coming in September, along with the rest of the 2010 agenda (note: worldwide tour was a joke, maybe). Please mark your planner.

That’s it for now, travelers. I will continue to report as our ship heads east. Thanks again to everyone who held on and believed. Your inspiration, encouragement, and support keeps our ship moving forward and spirits lifted high. Ciao soon ~ jkm
