Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Dear Friends ~

The Forecastle Festival and Nederlander Entertainment are proud to announce the second wave of artists for the 8th annual Forecastle Festival, July 10th - 12th in Louisville, KY. This announcement follows previously announced headliners Widespread Panic (2 nights), The Black Crowes, The Black Keys, and The Avett Brothers.

Zappa plays Zappa is a grammy-award winning band led by Dweezil Zappa, the oldest son of the late American composer and musician Frank Zappa, devoted to performing the music of Frank Zappa. His shows presented a collection of Frank Zappa’s rock compositions from 1960s to 1980s.

Umphrey’s McGee is an American progressive rock / jam band whose music is often referred to as “progressive improvisation.” Having opened Dave Matthews Band’s most recent summer tour, the band has become a mainstay at major festivals and amphitheatres. Their most recent album, Mantis, was awarded 4-stars by Rolling Stone, who called them “the odds-on favorites to be the next Phish”.

Yonder Mountain String Band are an American progressive bluegrass band from Colorado. With 10 years of touring under their belt, the group’s rock-infused bluegrass has built a devoted following across the country. The band has become accustomed to performing in large venues amphitheatres like The Fillmore in San Francisco and Red Rocks in Colorado. They are also a favorite at Telluride and other popular, summer festivals.

The Avett Brothers are a high-energy, highly-praised trio combining folk, bluegrass, country, punk, pop, folk, rock, honky tonk and ragtime. In the past
year, they have become the poster children of a new and rapidly growing
genre of American music. Their upcoming album is produced by Rick Rubin
(Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, U2, Shakira) and will be released
on Columbia Records this summer.

Other artists include DJ / producer Pretty Lights, English New Funk machines The New Mastersounds, Widespread Panic side project Outformation, Canadian alt. singer/songwriter Kathleen Edwards, and Nashville indie rockers The Whigs. Over fifty bands and DJs to be released on a rolling basis over the upcoming weeks.
