Forecastle Festival Capt’s Log - Sept / 08
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008Dear Friends ~
Greetings and welcome to the first Captain’s Log of Forecastle 2009. Two months ago we descended upon the Ohio River for (3) glorious days of music, art, and activism. Now our ship is back at sea, planning its return for the 8th annual Forecastle Festival.
To celebrate seven years of continuous growth, we launched a complete, retrospective multimedia history of Forecastle, available at: http://www.forecastlefest.com/media.php exclusively. 75% of the footage has never been viewed, from the first photo taken in 2002, to the most recent in July of 2008. It epitomizes the experience, showcasing the “best of the best” from seven years. Exclusive performances from The Disco Biscuits, Girl Talk, Sleater-Kinney, De La Soul, Tortoise, Band of Horses, GZA, and others are paired with interviews featuring National Geographic, Spank Rock, Jansport, Del McCoury, Particle, and more. Also included is the much demanded 1-hour keynote from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. To unveil the unreleased footage, we’ll be doing a show Oct. 11th at The Peak Summit Music and Dance Festival. The multimedia will be debuted in a presentation titled: Almost There: 7 Years aboard the Forecastle Ship. See http://www.peaksummit.com for details.
Oct. 20th will officially open the submission period for the 2009 season. We encourage all musicians, artists, and filmmakers to apply. Please check the website for updates on how to submit work for review and consideration. Similarly, we will update on the “Halfway to Forecastle” concerts, Jan. 26th @ Headliners Music Hall. Last year’s sold-out benefit featured performances from Band of Horses, VHS or Beta, Cass McCombs and many more. If you would like to be considered for Halfway to Forecastle, we recommend you submit your work before Nov. 15th.
The 2nd annual Forecastle College Tour will kick-off after the election, visiting each of our 10-participating cities to further promote the music, art, and film submissions for 2009. Stay glued to the website for updates on when Forecastle will be coming to a city near you.
That’s it, travelers. As our ship remains out at sea, monthly “Captain’s Logs” will continue to arrive offering important updates on the January “Halfway to Forecastle” concerts along with the main event next summer at the Riverfront Belvedere. Thanks again for all your kindness, support, words and actions ~ jkm
