Forecastle Festival “Captain’s Log” - September
September 29th, 2009 by forecastle“See the path cut by the moon… for you to walk on. See the waves on distant shores… awaiting your arrival…” ~ E.V. (“Unknown Thought”)
Dear Friends ~
Welcome to the September Captain’s Log.
It’s been a busy month above deck, with exciting news to update. I want to start by conveying my appreciation towards Ben Bridwell and Band of Horses for an excellent maritime vacation last month. It was our first in five years, returning home to Charleston, SC. The people couldn’t have been kinder, and the waters calmer. We’ll certainly be returning for palmetto trees, surf bars, organic seagrass, and fluorescent sunsets. Here is our September scroll:
2009 Multimedia
This month saw the release of hundreds of photos, videos, and multimedia from Forecastle 2009. Seek and you may find yourself ~ http://forecastlefest.com/media.php. Exclusive performances from Widespread Panic, The Black Keys, The Black Crowes, Pretty Lights, Man Man, and many more can be seen. Similarly, exclusive interviews with The Avett Brothers, Cage the Elephant, The Whigs, Christopher Childs (Greenpeace), and others are available. In October, Forecastle will launch its own YouTube vault to showcase never-before seen multimedia and behind-the-scenes footage compiled from (8) years. Special thanks to all the videographers and photographers who have contributed, as well as Brian Bohannon and Pat Yen for their tireless dedication. Name and contact info will be found on each selection.
The Ship Store
Forecastle has launched a new ship store, which features almost a thousand items. Limited-edition posters, shirts, hoodies, coffee mugs, and yes, even that infant bodysuit you wanted – can now be excavated. Check er out: http://www.forecastlefest.com or http://www.cafepress.com/forecastle. Special thanks to resident genius Jeff Gaither for these amazing designs.
Music Submissions
Forecastle will begin taking music submissions next month for opportunities to perform at the 2010 festival, tentatively scheduled for July 9th – 11th, 2010 at the Riverfront Belvedere. Art, activism, and film submissions will follow shortly thereafter. Stay tuned for details.
2009 Testimonials
If you have a testimonial from this year’s event (and would like the world to know), let us know. We are adding fresh content to the site all fall (check out the new homepage) and would love to include your thoughts. Halfway to Forecastle
Planning has begun not only for Forecastle 2010, but “Halfway to Forecastle” in January. Unique, engaging, educating, and stimulating, the past two sold-out Headliners Music Hall and The Green Building. The best is yet to come.
That’s it for now, folks. I will continue to report as the good ship moves forth. Special thanks to everyone who contributed their thoughts and suggestions last month, we will try to implement as many ideas as we can. Likewise, I want to again express my sincerity and appreciation to the 23,000 festival attendees from (44) states and (6) countries that made our recent Charleston journey (and our current, neverending one), possible. Your assistance is forever with us, inspiration that fuels our exhibition up steeper peaks and heavier seas. Ciao soon ~ jkm
